Spring has arrived. The equinox was chilly and there was even a sprinkling of snow, as if winter made once last attempt to stay. Last weekend (March 16th) I started my tomato and pepper seeds. I planted thirty tomato seeds, which were a combination of Gardener’s Delight, Jaune Flamme, Indigo Rose, La Roma, Brandywine and Kellogg’s Breakfast, and sixty pepper seeds, a combination of Ancho, California Wonder, Cheyenne, Gypsy, Jalapeno, Pepperoncini and Thai Dragon seeds. The tomato seeds are sprouting but these is no sight of the peppers yet.

Outside we checked on the plants that overwintered. The peach and apples trees are budding. The raspberries and grape vines are beginning as well. The cabbage, spinach, kale and parsnips that I planted last fall are still alive and enjoying the warmer weather. Eventually I will have to clear out some of the fall crops to make room for beets, swiss chard and carrots. We did plant some Super Sugar Snap Peas in the corner bed, hopefully an earlier start will mean better success that last year.

Fun! We still can't see most of the grass, but the snow will soon melt! I will have to take it easy this year, as I have no beds and am about 7 months pregnant. I also am completely unfamiliar with the planting schedule up here, so I will do that research this spring & summer and hopefully have a little garden next year!

We really enjoyed the Jaune Flamee last year- I'm so envious of your bare dirt- seems like winter won't quit here!
