November 2025 Nature Connection Calendar for Families

Hello, November!

November holds a special place in my heart. It used to be one of my least favorite months, the beauty of early fall fading, the days growing shorter, the landscape turning gray, and winter’s sparkle still far away.

Many years ago, my friend Dawn Suzette Smith began a November “get outside” challenge called Fall Outside. Joining her challenge completely changed the way I see this month and inspired me to write Fall Outside: 30 Prompts for Exploring Nature with Children. This November 2025 Nature Connection Calendar for Families is inspired by the Fall Outside challenge.

A few special moments this November

🌕 Beaver Super Moon — November 5
Step outside and watch the full moon rise in its golden glow.

🌑 Micro New Moon — November 19/20 (depending on time zone)
Set a quiet family intention beneath the dark, still sky.

🌠 Leonid Meteor Shower Peak — November 17
Wake early or stay up late to catch fast, bright streaks across the night.

🍂 Read Aloud — In November by Cynthia Rylant
Curl up together with this lovely story that captures the spirit of the season.

A month of cozy outdoor connection

This calendar is full of simple, meaningful prompts (Shadow Play, Mushroom Hunt, Leaf Pressing, Pinecone Pals, and Raindrop Race) that help families stay curious outdoors even as the days grow shorter. Whether you’re in a city park or your own backyard, these moments nurture wonder, gratitude, and calm.

Remember, connection isn’t about doing it all, it’s about slowing down together. When you pause to feel the breeze, trace a shadow, or listen to rustling leaves, you’re building memories that last far beyond the season.

So print your November 2025 Nature Connection Calendar for Families and let it guide you through a month of golden light, outdoor play, and quiet gratitude for nature’s rhythms. If you’d like to follow along with our daily adventures,  join me over on Instagram or TikTok.

NATURE CONNECTION MOMENTS FOR FAMILIES

November’s quiet days invite us to slow down and notice small wonders in nature. We’ll press colorful leaves, search for animal tracks, make pinecone pals, and sip warm drinks outdoors as the Beaver Moon lights up the sky. It’s a month for puddle-jumping, mossy moments, and cozy gratitude before winter settles in.

November read-aloud pick: In November by Cynthia Rylant
“In November, the air grows cold and the earth and all of its creatures prepare for winter. Animals seek food and shelter. And people gather together to celebrate their blessings with family and friends. Cynthia Rylant’s lyrical language and Jill Kastner’s rich, cozy paintings capture the cherished moments of this autumn month–the moments we spend together and the ones we witness in the world around us.”

How to use this November 2025 Nature Connection Calendar

🌿 Print & Post: Download and print the November 2025 Nature Connection Calendar for Families and hang it somewhere central—on the fridge, in your homeschool nook, or beside your boots by the door. Seeing it daily keeps nature connection simple and top of mind.

🔗 Tap the Links: Underlined prompts in the PDF are clickable! Open them for quick how-tos, craft ideas, and outdoor inspiration. Try the links for Animal Tracks and Nature Journaling—and save your family’s favorites.

🌱 Pick Your Pace: With 30 bite-size prompts, follow along day-by-day or jump in when it fits your rhythm. Maybe it’s a cozy Read Aloud before bed, a Puddle Jump after rain, or a quick Shadow Play at sunset—choose connection over perfection.

☀️ Plan Ahead: A few activities need simple prep. Gather paper and crayons for Bark Rubbings, a basket for Feather Find, or ingredients for Apple Chips. Check the calendar for special nights like the Beaver Super Moon or Leonid Meteor Shower.

🌳 Stay Flexible: No moss nearby for your Mossy Moment? Notice lichen on trees instead. Can’t find mushrooms today? Try Fall Textures or Raindrop Race. Adapt to what your local landscape offers—it all counts.

👂 Engage the Senses: November smells like rain, earth, and woodsmoke; sounds like wind through bare branches and geese overhead; feels like cool bark and soft moss. Ask: How many shades of brown can you spot? What does the breeze sound like through different trees?

📸 Capture the Moments: Snap photos, record notes, or add sketches to your nature journal after Pinecone Pickup, Leaf Prints, or Beaver Moon gazing. These small snapshots become your family’s story of the season.

🌦 Celebrate Small Wins: Found a new trail on your Fall Walk? Discovered animal tracks in the mud? Counted a shooting star during the Leonids? Every moment of wonder deepens your connection to nature. Share your small wins by tagging @thebackwoodsmama on Instagram or TikTok.

🔄 Combine Activities: Pair Leaf Pressing with Nature Journaling, collect leaves for Leaf Prints, or cozy up indoors with a Warm Drink after a Puddle Jump. Little pairings keep the rhythm of the season flowing.

🌸 Reflect & Reset: As November unfolds, take time to pause together. Which Beaver Moon moment stood out? Did the New Moon intention bring calm? What surprised you during your Mushroom Hunt or Fall Poem? Celebrate the slowing pace and the quiet magic of late autumn.
